Mendez: A Day at the Races

There are currently two Mendez families. One is Mena, Pablo's widow, and her daughter Lynsay. They live on a big lot, but the house isn't all that large. It has a stable/shed and a garage, but only two bedrooms.

Lynsay is a teenager now, and in fact, she's almost ready to become a young adult. (She's 19, in my game teens stop being teens when they're twenty.) Her bedroom still had her crib in it, so it is high time for a make-over!

Lynsay's boyfriend Carlton Fox aged up a few days ago, which leaves Lynsay without anyone to go to the prom with. Actually, Darin Younger asked her, but Darin just turned 13, so that's not an option for her.

Lynsay wants to be a cat herder. She's got two cats of her own, and she's hoping for kittens. She's also been making friends with other people's cats. (There are no strays on the island - it's too small. People always know who cats belong to.)

Basically for Lynsay it's a waiting game. As soon as enough people have cats, she can befriend 15 of them...

Pablo's brother Russell and his wife Regina now live in the retirement center, but unlike Sofia and Daniel, they don't mind the decor. Besides, since Sofia redid their room, the rooms no longer look alike. So with some minor changes (mostly new curtains and another bedspread) they're satisfied.

Their son Dominic and his wife Colleen Bouchard live with their son, Raoul. Just before the last Simquake (a.k.a. 'restarting the game') he married Tracie Bernard (Gina Bernard's twin sister). They now have a son called Juan.

Raoul wants to be a jockey. And not just any jockey, he wants to be The Jockey. He's been lobbying very hard for an equestrian center on the island - but again, the council have vetoed that idea in favour of a hospital, police station, etc.

Raoul does understand that. What he doesn't understand is why the gazebo got prioritised!

Raoul doubles his lobbying efforts, and since the crime rate appears to be fairly low, they decide that they will place a temporary Equestrian Center before doing anything else.

Dominic achieved his lifetime wish of having a Bottomless Nectar Cellar. Actually, he no longer has one, since he apparently drank a few bottles of his own nectar while I wasn't looking. No problem, though - he still needs to get to the top of the Nectar Maker profession, so he can make some more.

Raoul decides to sell his horse, Dany, and buy a new one. The one he choses is called Snowball, but since she's mostly black, that doesn't really make sense to Raoul, who renames her Belladonna.

The sale of Dany gives him a nice boost up the jockey career ladder, but once he gets home, he finds that Dominic doesn't really agree with his choices. So they buy Dany back (she's fortunately still listed for sale at the equestrian center!).
Now father and son can go riding together.

Buying Belladonna was a good move, though. Dany is basically very lazy, but Belladonna is agile and fast, and also a genius - so she's a lot easier to train.
In fact, the very next day Raoul and Belladonna enter their first beginner level race. And in spite of starting out in 12th position, they manage to win.

Raoul is enjoying himself so much that he decides to adopt a foal from the shelter as well. It's another mare, and her name is Scarlet.

Tracie's wish is to have a Perfect Garden. Daisy Adams had one of those a long time ago, in Fort Sim, so it's not a new wish, but it's been a long time since anyone tried.
Tracie is a hard worker. As a teenager, she worked in the bookstore, and then she took a job at the bistro. She now decides to quit her job as a line cook and become a full-time gardener.

She may not have the first Perfect Garden, but she would like to be the first resident to reach the top of the Gardener profession. Already her fruit is of such great quality that she immediately jumps to level 4 after selling her first harvest. And that is *after* Dominic took half the grapes for his nectar.

That's it for the Mendez family. Everyone seems to be well on their way to achieve their lifetime goals.
