The Unavoidable McGoverns

With Stacia has in her new home, there are now once again two families named McGovern. Besides the McGoverns that pop up in most other families in town these days...

Stacia's house is a converted barn. It has one bedroom, but there's an attic which could be converted. Not that Stacia needs to do that... She still lives alone. Which also means she has the sole responsibility for the animals she took with her. Unfortunately, she's broke.

However, during her day off she managed to find some rocks and seeds, and harvest some vegetables on community lots, so that she scrapes together enough money to get a hitching post for her elderly horses.

She also gets a bowl for the old dog, and that's about all she can manage. She's still a Paper Girl in the Journalism career, and not likely to get promoted soon. I'm not sure she can pull off her "Jack of All Trades" before she retires.

Stacia's youngest sibling, Trevor, is doing a lot better in his career. The last time I visited him he was halfway his music career, and Gillian regularly doused him with performance enhancing potions to get him going...

Gillian had no problem achieving her Lifetime Wish of being an Alchemy Artisan. It's maybe a bit impractical to have the large alchemy station in the attic. Plus the ingredients cabinet... But they have plenty of room for the family, with two bedrooms downstairs.

So when we get back to the family now, about five Sim-years have passed. The kids are growing up,
Trevor has been promoted to Pop Icon, and he's at almost 80% of his job performance to get that final promotion.
You'd think it was easy to level up when you're that close - but not for Trevor. He's slacking off, and the bar remains stuck at 95% or so.

And of course at this level, he rarely works. So he spends a few days hanging around watching television, while Gillian is hard at work.

Gillian is still trying to get to level 10 of the Alchemist profession. She's at skill level 10, she's accomplished her LTW, and the career shouldn't be too far off.

She's been petitioning the council for a return of the potions consignment shop. So far she doesn't really get any support from the government, though. They seem to think that other buildings (like a hospital, a science lab, and maybe a police station) have priority.

So the best Gillian can do is try to find her own ingredients 'in the wild', or grow her own if she can.

Buddy is a teenager now, and Margaret is a child. Their bedrooms receive a major make-over, and while they're turning the house upside down anyway, Gillian decides to have a spiral staircase put in, which saves a lot of room.

After two lazy days, Trevor has to report to the theater once again. Before he leaves, Gillian gives him a firm talking-to about his performance. No "chilling out" this time!

He actually does leave in time - in spite of the fact that Margaret does have a ballet recital he'd rather attend - and sticks around without leaving early or spending too much time slacking off.
When he comes home that night, he can call himself a Rock Star.

Margaret stayed up to wait for him, and showed off some moves he missed at the recital. And congratulate him on his promotion.

So, that's the first McGovern to complete a LTW. (Well, Gillian did, too, but that's probably more down to her Kim genes...)

Trevor goes over to his co-worker Wu Kim the next day to talk about setting up a band.

Now I know that they need a 1 point skill in the hidden 'band' skill before they can officially register at City Hall as a band. I think they get it by performing, so I'll have to see what happens next round.

So that is one Lifetime Wish taken care of:

Trevor McGovern: Rock Star, level 10 Music/Rock.

Now it's up to Gillian to earn those 12,000 Simoleons she needs to get to the top of her career.
